Commitment Eases The
Way
More Articles
Many people fear or avoid commitment (in relationships, to their goals) thinking that it makes
life more difficult when in fact, commitment makes things easier! Commitment helps you to focus, make
decisions and guides you through challenges.
Before you can even commit, you need to decide what you are going to do. So, when I say “decide,” I mean
make a firm decision, not a “maybe” or a “we’ll seeā¦.” Until you decide that you are going to
achieve a goal, that goal remains a dream.
The decision must then be followed up with a commitment to yourself to do whatever it takes to achieve that
goal. If you haven’t committed to sticking it through to the end, you are likely to be side-tracked or
discouraged. Without commitment, it is too easy to give up when the going gets tough or obstacles appear -
and when you have goals, especially big ones, there will always be some form of obstacle in the way.
Commitment is what can get you through and directs you to take action.
Your response to setbacks and failures along the way will determine your ability to achieve your outcomes.
So here are more keys to the success mindset that will keep you on track as challenges arise so that you can go all
the way with your dreams:
Keep Your End Game in Mind
I guarantee you there will be distractions along the way. Whether it’s someone suggesting the latest
get-rich-quick scheme or your reading about other opportunities that pulls your focus off track, these distractions
are just there to test your resolve. Are you willing to stay focused on your target or are you willing to sell out
on your dream for a supposedly easier path?
If you are committed you will find a way. Every time an obstacle comes along your way, keep asking
yourself: "How can I get to my goal?"
Power of Persistence
The power of persistence to overcome obstacles is awesome. The important thing to consider is how much do
you want your goal? Are you prepared for things to go pear-shaped? If you want to get from A to B,
expect to have to go round or over some hurdles to reach your destination. Prepare accordingly—make up your
mind that you will persist no matter what. By committing to your goal in this way you will always outlast and
overcome anything else.
To have the heart to persist, you need to have an important enough reason, a “why” to reach your goal.
When your goal is meaningful, then that can inspire you to keep going when the going gets rough.
No Failure, Only Feedback
Many people stop taking action on their goals for fear of failing. In fact, one can learn the most from
one’s failures. In fact, we do this from the very beginning of our lives—as babies, we are constantly
learning new skills, to sit-up, to crawl, to walk, etc. If we had given up after our first attempt at walking
just because we fell down, then we would all be stuck crawling around as adults! Instead, we developed our
muscle strength and coordination until we could balance on two feet.
As adults, we sometimes think we should already know everything and get it right the first time. Mistakes
are natural and as long as you are willing to to learn new things then you will progress. This is especially
important if you are beginning a new phase of your life and career. Put this habit into practice in business
and relationships, continually honing your systems and communication until you find what works. Learning from
everything you can going forward will positively affect your outcome and move you further, faster toward your end
goals.
Commitment can be applied to short-term daily goals and to your long-term goals. If you are working on
training a new habit, then be aware of the language you are using to put these habits into practise. “I will
do xyz every day” is different to “I’ll try to do xyz” or even “I’ll do xyz someday”. Put intention and
purpose into your life and you will achieve so much more and enjoy the results.
Keep these in mind to help your commitment to your future
