Townsville, 24/08/2011 -The Bullion Group was represented at the Australian Mining Industry Health & Safety Conference with an exhibit to talk about it's various programs.  Annette Lynch was present to discuss the Mind Body Safety Program as well as listen to the various keynote presenters and papers addressing safety and health.

The Bullion Group got a chance to snap a shot with Olympic Gold Medallist, Steven Bradbury, who is an excellent role model for personal leadership and getting results.

The Bullion Group will next be represented at the Rockhampton Drillfest where Annette Lynch will be speaking on "Valuing People & Safety".

Mind Body Safety Program Launched
Thinking differently about Safety

Mackay, 28/07/2011 -   The Mind Body Safety program was launched in Mackay a day after the MAIN Safety Conference. Safety representatives and mining leaders were invited to a 90 minute presentation discussing why we need to change our thinking to dramatically change behaviours in relation to safety.

Lead Educator for the new initiative from The Bullion Group, Annette Lynch, engaged her audience in an interactive session which demonstrated not only what the program was about, but more importantly, how the information would be taught.

The problem with many training programs on safety is the lack of engagement with the audience. A participant needs to actively engaged in the learning process to be able to retain the information and use it in their life to get results. "We want our audience members to get this important information as it is about saving their life," says Lynch. "It's not good enough to blame others for accidents, when you are the one getting hurt." The Mind Body Safety program looks at putting the power back in the individual to influence their behaviour and therefore their safety.

The offshoot of this approach is that participants will not only feel in greater control of preventing accidents, but are able to use the same information and tools to improve the quality of their experience at work, with a focus on positive communication with fellow employees. The program includes a leadership and communication component particularly directed at bosses and supervisors to improve their relationship with those in their team.

Studies show that moving a culture towards being independent (self) and interdependent (team-based) has a marked effect on reducing injury. By engaging participants, giving them reasons 'why to change' and teaching them ways to change their thinking, the Mind Body Safety program is effective in getting the results companies desire.

The Mind Body Safety Approach

  • Accelerated/Adult learning techniques
  • Works with behaviour at the root cause - a person's thoughts and emotions
  • Overcomes individuals mental blind spots
  • Promotes Individual and Team responsibility
  • Encourages daily learning (vs reporting only)
  • Praise and effective feedback

Thinking-based safety™ addresses how to direct the internal dialogue between mind and body in order to act in a safe manner to achieve optimum outcomes. Traditional behaviour-based programs are based on an “act into thinking” premise, which can take a long time to achieve the desired changes. Thinking-based safety ™ works on the principle of “think into acting” whereby a change in thinking will produce different outcomes and can be immediately effective.
